TWO BROTHERS – LOCAL FAMILY’S FOURTH BEREAVEMENT Miss Green, 32 Hayes Yard, off King Edward Street, Macclesfield, has been officially notified of the death in action of two of her brothers, Private Joseph Green, Loyal North Lancs Regt, and Pte John Henry Green, Ches Regt… Private Joseph Green was only nineteen years of age and was born in Hayes Yard, where his parents then resided. He received his education at St Alban’s Day School and was connected with the church. On leaving school he was employed by Neckwear Ltd, and at the time of enlistment twelve months ago last April, was engaged in munition work at Messrs Brunner Mond’s, Northwich. He completed his training at Aldershot, and before being drafted to France almost four months ago came home on six days leave… By the loss of these two brothers, Miss Green has suffered her fourth bereavement. One brother, Private Albert Green, Ches Regt, was killed in France on November 1st 1915, being only nineteen years of age… The other brother, Lance-Corpl Arthur Green, South Lancs Regt, died at his home on February 19th, 1916, from tuberculosis… Two other brothers are now serving with the colours. The first, Sergt Alfred Green, Ches Regt, is in Egypt… The other brother, Private James Green, Royal Welsh Fusiliers, is also in Egypt, where he has often met the Sergeant… Two cousins have done their bit, namely Private Patrick Reed, Cheshire Regt, and Private John Green. The former fought in the South African War and is now in France; and the latter has been discharged on account of an injured leg.
