Lives of the First World War

The 6th Berkshires formed part of the 53rd Brigade (18th Division), attached to the 30th Division, with the task of carrying the advance through to its final objective in Polygon Wood on the eastern end of the Gheluvelt plateau. Their attack was one of the most important, but equally one of the most hazardous operations. The number of casualties was huge - 44 officers and men were killed, 182 wounded and 28 were missing.
