William Horace Simpson served in the Royal Navy from 3 April 1912 (Boy 2, bugler), joining HMS Black Prince as Boy 1 on 27 August 1913 and being successively rated Ordinary Seaman and then AB (on 15 December 1914). CWGC records him as foster son of Mrs Minnie Bishop of 1, Ship Cottages, Meads, Eastbourne.
