Served in India 7/1/1908 - 18-12-1914. Having completed seven years service with the Cheshire Regiment Alfred Astles was serving with the 2nd Battalion in India, when he signed an agreement in India 6/7/1914 to extend his service for two more years there - Circumstances in 1914 overtook his expectations and in December was headed for the UK [and then in 1915 for France].
