Having completed seven years service with the Cheshire Regiment Alfred Astles was serving with the 2nd Battalion in India when he signed an agreement 6/7/1914 to extend his service for two more years there [Circumstances in 1914 overtook his expectations and in December he was headed for the UK and then in 1915 for France].
