Loss of Great Uncle on the HMHS. Llandovery.

27th June 1918

After having got over the loss of his brother Edward Joseph White on board the Titanic in 1912, uncle Ernie joined the hospital ship Llandovery Castle as an assistant chef. He had been married to Helen Murphy in September 1917 and by the time that the hospital ship had been torpedoed by the German submarine U86 his wife would have been about 2/3 months pregnant. Young Ernest Evelyn White (Jnr) was born in December 1918. Young Ernest went onto marry and stayed in Southampton where he died in 1969. They have surviving children and grand children living in Hampshire. My great grandmother, E E White's mother lost 4 sons, one to the Titanic and three to WW1. May they all RIP.
