March 2005
In 2005, I was fortunate to visit the Arras Memorial in Arras, France, while chaperoning a group of students from St. Andrew's College in Aurora, Ontario, Canada. Another past student from SAC was buried in this cemetery and the students held a ceremony in honour of these fallen heroes. I had brought crayons and paper in order to make a rubbing of Charles Joiner's name, but discovered to my frustration that his name was out of reach near the top of the wall panel. A small ladder from our coach bus and the supporting hands of teachers and students allowed me to reach high enough to obtain many rubbings. These rubbings have been shared in shadow boxes mounted in the homes of our family members in Canada.
