St Andrews Student Killed in Action.— Lieut. William Michael Dashwood Stirling Strettell who has been killed in action was a student of medicine at St Andrews University. He was a keen member of the O.T.C., and on the outbreak of war immediately offered his services, and obtained a commission on the 15th August 1914 in the H.L.I. (Special Reserve.) He was promoted full Lieutenant the next year. He left for the front early in May 1915, where he was attached to the K.O.S.B. He was wounded in the arm ten days later, and was invalided home. While still unfit for general service, he served with a garrison battalion of the Royal Scots in the East. He then joined the R.F.C., in the autumn of 1916, and some months later acted as assistant instructor in flying at the Central Flying School. He was again sent to the front on 29th September 1917, and was killed in November. He was 24 years of age, and the only son of the late George W. Strettell (Indian Forests) and of Strettell, Roanhill, Kincardine, Fife. He received his early education at the Madras College. His Lieut- Colonel in a letter of sympathy to Mrs Strettell says her son was one of the finest fellows it had been his fortune to meet. He had great hopes for him, and was certain he would have a brilliant pilot. He was a keen, efficient, and really good soldier.
