Marshall was attached to 101 Squadron, stationed at Bertangles at the time that Manfred Von Richthofen, the Red Baron, was killed. As the Red Baron was a Protestant, Marshall was the nearest C of E Chaplain and was chosen to officiate at Von Richthofen’s funeral.
