Lance Corporal Thomas Cyril Edmonds

Thomas Cyril Edmonds, known as Cyril, was born in 1886 in the village of Thorpe Malsor, near Kettering, Northamptonshire. Youngest son of Thomas and Theresa Edmonds. On the census of 1891 Theresa is a widow living in the Schoolhouse with her two sons working as a dressmaker. Thomas is still in Norton in 1901, but by 1911 he is working in Holloway London as a warehouseman in the woollen trade. Thomas attested into the 5th (reserve) Battalion Rifle Brigade stationed at Winchester on the 11th September 1914. He was 28 years and 5 months old, 5 feet 5 inches tall, weight 126lbs. Had a 35inch chest with pale complexion, blue eyes and dark brown hair. On the 15th September 1914 he was posted to the 5th Battalion Rifle Brigade and after completing his training sailed on 1st May 1915 to join the British Expeditionary Force. Thomas returned to London in April 1916 to marry Mary Magdalene Perry at St. Peter’s Parish Church, Regent Square on 25th April 1916
