Lives of the First World War

On 28th June 1916 he was posted to the 11th (Service) Battalion Rifle Brigade BEF and was later promoted to Lance-Corporal (unpaid!) on 4th August 1916. Thomas was originally posted as missing on the 22nd September 1916, the authorities later informed his family that he was killed in action on 18th September 1916 on the Somme probably during the battle of Flers-Courcelette which had started on the 13th September. Thomas has no known grave and is commemorated on Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France. Pier & Face 16B & 16C, and on the Norton War Memorial and Great War Memorial board in the church.
