He was appointed as a Lieutenant in the 133rd Battalion. [previous military service was with 39th Norfolk Rifles Regiment and he enrolled in Canadian Officer Training Corps for one year]. British Expeditionary Force to 215 Squadron, Andover. 04:07:1918 British Expeditionary Force, France. 03:08:1918 Handley Page 0/400 D4567 took off from Alquines at 23:50 on a mission to a target at Fives railway station, which was behind German lines. Lt Hammond was the pilot and the two other crew – Sergeant [gunner] Henry Thomas Pheby and 2nd Lt Wilfred Henry Brinkworth. Lt Hammond was classed as Missing in Action, whilst Pheby and Brinkworth as Killed in Action. 04:08:1918 Lt Hammond was reported as Missing in Action – presumed killed. The name of Lieutenant Henry Lloyd Hammond is commemorated on the Arras Flying Services Memorial. RIP.
