Lieutenant Edward Mortimer came up to Clare from Repton in October, 1898. He was a fine bat who captained the college XI in 1901, and after going down assisted Northumberland with some success. Lieutenant Moritmer was of rather a reserved disposition and did not make friends readily, but no one could meet him without feeling his personal charm. Younger members of the College had the pleasure of making his acquaintance when he visited Cambridge on two occasions recently to play for the Northern Nomads.
