SavilleTown Family's Heavy Lost. (Two Killed and One Missing)

SavilleTown Family's Heavy Lost. (Two Killed and One Missing)

9th October 1917

It as been our sad duty in times past to record the deplorable news of the deaths in action of two gallant sons of Mr & Mrs Lightfoot of 79, The Wharfe, Savile Town. In the July push of 1916 Pte Ernest Lightfoot (25) KOYLI had the misfortune to be severely wounded and he was exposed for 130 hours before he was able to crawl into a trench. He died from his wounds. On August 19th this year. Arthur Lightfoot (24) single was killed in action. Now comes the news that Pte Arnold Lightfoot (21) York and Lancaster regiment is reported missing and his anxious parents would be grateful for any news concerning him. He is reported as missing from October 9th last (1917). Pte Arnold Lightfoot was a Painter and Decorator by trade and employed by the late Mr Ned Ramsden of Halifax Road, Dewsbury. He enlisted in October 1915, and went to France in December 1916. He was gassed in August of this year, but not sufficiently serious to warrant his removal to England. In fact he’s never been home to this country since he crossed the Channel in December last year. A letter was received from him on October 1st to the effect he was in good health. Mr and Mrs Lightfoot have another son Pte Harry Lightfoot who is in the R.A.M.C
