WAR HISTORY OF THE 6TH CHESHIRES P.23, 3rd para.: The Battalion whilst in the line worked manfully to improve the conditions. In some cases, the line was nothing but a number of isolated posts. These they linked up, and at Gheluvelt the Battalion dug a communication trench as a protection from snipers. At Gheluvelt battle patrols sent out by "B" and "C" Companies suffered rather heavy casualties on October 29th, six being killed and nine wounded.
