Biography of Alfred Sang

Alfred Sang was born in Paris on the 6th of September, 1876, the son of Frederick Joseph Sang, a painter, and Caroline Jane Gaerth, and the brother of Lillie Sang-Collins, (a professional soprano and vocal-coach). Alfred was what might be described as a renaissance man. He was fluent in French, Spanish, Italian, German and Russian. Alfred was a metallurgical engineer, inventor, scientist, published writer, cyclist, pianist, and artist. He was also an early student of the burgeoning science of psychology. Alfred met his future wife, Sarah Alice Spang, when the pair were students together, and seated next to each other in an alphabetized French language classroom. They went on to have three children together: Frederick Sang, Elizabeth Ewing Sang (who served as a British Army Field Nurse in WWII). and Henry James Sang (an aeronautical engineer).
