ARMY SERVICE

ARMY SERVICE

8th August 1906 - 28th May 1919

Private Frederick Kent's army service record survives. It shows that he was enlisted in the Wiltshire Regiment in August 1906 and that he spent time with both the 1st and 2nd Battalions. His peace time service included periods in India and South Africa. He went to France on the 6 October 1914 with 2nd Battalion and later that month, on 24 October 1914 was taken prisoner at Ypres. He spent the rest of the war as a POW in Germany and was repatriated on 2 December 1918. He was transferred to the Reserve (Class Z) on 28 May 1919 but died the following year, no doubt as a result of the conditions that he had to bear in the Prisoner of War Camps in Germany.
