known 13th October 1915
Noel Charles Henderson, elder son of Mr and Mrs George Henderson, of 13, Palace-court, W, was killed in France on 28 September. Born in 1894, he was educated at Marlborough and entered Clare in 1913 and read for the Mechanical Sciences Tripos. On the outbreak of war he obtained a nomination to Sandhurst from the University. He passed out of Sandhurst in February, 1915, when he was gazetted to the Black Watch, and he joined his regiment in France in May last. His commanding officer writes: ‘I found him with his men that morning in the most advanced position of our line then holding the fourth line of the enemy’s trenches. It did me good at that time of haste and confusion to find one so calm and confident and determined.’
