trooper Rimmer was the second son of Mr C Rimmer, bailiff of Birkdale Farm School. A letter from the Captain of the deceased's squadron stated that he was buried in a trench along with three other comrades, by a shell explosion. He was extricated and buried in a cemetery near by. Prior to enlisting he was a member of the Borough Police Force. When war broke out he was a student at Ushaw College, Durham, joining the forces in September 1914, and going out to France the following May. His brother, Corporal Joseph Rimmer, Worcester Regiment, was wounded at the front whilst serving under Major Armitage.
