His actual date of death is not known. It was sometime between 29/4/16 (the fall of Kut) and 6/5/18, a date at which Turkish Red Crescent records were catching up as to what prisoners were still alive and where. He was one of those that died without trace and anyone who might have known also died. There are many in this category. He was part of the 82nd Battery Royal Field Artillery, 6th Indian Division that was trapped under siege in Kut el Amara 7/12/15-29/4/16. When the starving garrison eventually surrendered to the Turkish he would be one of those who set out on the long 400 mile death march to Turkey. Many fell by the wayside and were murdered or left to die of thirst and starvation and disease. Despite extensive enquiries it seems the Army never found out his actual death date. CWGC and SDGW use the end date 6/5/18 but Soldiers Effects uses the first date and quotes the possible date range.
