Obituary of Eric Gerald Trewhitt

Sec. Lieutenant Eric Gerald Trewhitt, H.A.C., died of wounds on November 14th, aged 24. The third son of the late Francis John Trewhitt, solicitor, of Sunderland, he was educated at Cordwalles, Maidenhead, and at Bedford. He was out in Venezuela when war broke out, but returned at once to rejoin the H.A.C., and was sent to France at the end of 1914. His Commanding Officer writes :— " He was mortally wounded while leading his company to attack a German stronghold, but lived long enough to know that his company had done as he would have wished. He was one of the very finest young officers I had, and was loved by officers and men and greatly respected. He died gloriously, nobly, without flinching." He had distinguished himself on more than one occasion, and received the Distinguished Service Card.—The Times.
