Lives of the First World War

Sons of Louisa Elizabeth and Joseph Sams from London. James served with the Royal Engineers, and was killed in action on 29 March 1918. Thomas served in the Royal Navy and survived the war. IWM holds letters and postcards that James wrote home from the front, as well as poignant photographs taken by Thomas during a pilgrimage to his brother's grave in August 1926 (Documents.12541).
