Bdr C Vallender MM with two comradesThe photograph is of Charles Vallender (standing right) and two comrades. The two other soldiers are believed to be Corporal (later Sergeant) G Harkes No 54670 (standing left) and Gunner P S Cox No. 89264 (sitting). The three men are wearing MM ribbons, and it is believed that the photograph was taken after the three men had received their MM ribbons for their gallant action on 13 October 1916. Under heavy shell fire they had rescued the occupants from the Battery Command Post, which had been hit at its door by a shell and the occupants had been imprisoned inside it.Contributed by:
