The Little Gaddesden Roll of Honour

The Roll of Honour, which hangs in St Peter & St Paul's Church, Little Gaddesden and lists 119 names of those from Little Gaddesden, Ringshall and Hudnall who served in the 1914 – 1918 War. Men who have answered their country’s call in defence of a “Scrap of Paper”. Ernest’s entry reads: JANES, Ernest, The Hertfordshire Yeomanry, which was the regiment in which he first served.

A 2013 photo of St Peter & St Paul's Church, Little Gaddesden, where Ernest Leslie Janes was buried in the old churchyard on 17th February 1923, having died aged 25 of peritonitis.

The photo shows Ernie, a member of the Hertfordshire Yeomanry, mounted on his horse. The exact date is not known but it must have been betweeen 10th November 1915 when he was posted for duty at Hertford and 3rd September 1917 when he was posted to the 3rd Leicestershire Regiment.
