Page 1 of letter written by HRH Prince of WalesLetter written and signed ('Edward') by HRH The Prince of Wales, later HM King Edward VIII, while serving as a staff officer at HQ, 14th Corps BEF in the Ypres Salient, to one of his father's Equerries, Captain (later Sir Bryan) Godfrey-Faussett, triumphally expressing his joy at the outcome of the Battle of Jutland, praising the achievements of the Navy, and of Admiral Beatty in particular, expressing his and his father's sorrow at the news of the death of Lord Kitchener, remarking on the King's (George V) reluctance to change his routine and visit the Grand Fleet, highlighting the terrible conditions in the Ypres Salient, praising the successes of the Russian forces and, in a postscript, claiming that the award to him of the Military Cross was not merited.Contributed by:
