George Henry Shepherd L/7412
George in his uniform during 1918. The chequered patch on his shoulder indicates his is in the 34th Division. His unit, the 160th (Wearside) Brigade Royal Field Artillery, was in this Division for the duration of the War. He has two service chevrons on his sleeve, one for 1916 and one for 1917. At some point he was a Driver, charged with handling the horses pulling the guns, but according to his service record he spent most of his time in the Brigade as a Gunner. For the duration of his service he was in Battery 'A' of the Brigade, which used QF 18-Pdr Field Guns. He was also a Signaler, and as such was often put on Telephone duty. This photo was most likely taken while home on leave during 1918.
