Tank Corps cap badge (1918 pattern)The title Tank Corps became effective on 28 July 1917 but a new badge was not approved by the Sovereign until 11 September 1917. Actual issues were not made to other ranks until January 1918. The request for a motto with the badge was refused on the grounds that such distinctions were only awarded to long established Corps for particularly meritorious service. The motto "Fear Naught" was approved in 1922.

Second Lieutenant Sidney James Johnson VaughtonJack Lord's tank commander at the time of Jack's death (connect letter on Rossendale Free Press). Sidney Vaughton joined up underage and intially served in the Tank Corps where he was awarded the MC for repairing a tank under fire. He went on to serve as a gunner in the RFC and survived the war dying of natural causes in 1984.Contributed by:
