Lives of the First World War

This image is a scan of a page from the Sept. 1915 edition of The Monthly Review of the Incorporated Society of Inspectors of Weights & Measures. It states that Horace M. Buddery passed his examinations in July 1915 & had been issued with a certificate of qualification as an Inspector from the Board of Trade. It goes on to state that on 10 August 1915 he was appointed by Yarmouth Town Council on a salary of £120. per annum.

An early view of the Great Yarmouth Primitive Methodist Temple (the school building is on the left). Horace "was associated with the Temple Sunday School and Church from his infancy. As a boy he took a prominent part in anniversary celebrations & in his youth became a member of the choir, subsequently acting as secretary for a considerable period. He was seldom absent from his place at morning & evening worship and set a fine example of loyal service."

A modern day photo of 19 Anson Road, Southtown, Great Yarmouth. This would appear to have been the Buddery family home from as early as 1901. Horace was living here with his parents until he went on active service.

This is the final resting place of Horace M. Buddery in the Ramscappelle Road Military Cemetery, near Nieuwpoort, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.

This is the headstone of Horace's parents Robert Joseph and Julia Eliza Buddery and is located in the Kitchener Road cemetery, Great Yarmouth. Horace Milton Buddery is also commemorated on this headstone.
