Title: Postmen In The Trenches

Description: Aisne 1914: The Dawn of Trench Warfare by Paul Kendall includes the stories of soldiers who, before World War I, were employed by the Post Office. Sergeant Arthur Burchett was a postman at Elstead and in 1914 he served with the 3rd Coldstream Guards. He was killed during the battle of the Aisne and was initially buried at Soupir before his remains were transferred to Vailly British cemetery after the war.
