Gravestone Banstead All Saints ChurchyardBirth Reg. Q1 1873 Epsom Dist., Surrey - Edward James SEAL., censuses & SDGW Roll says born Carshalton. His mother was Harriet Seal, single woman, father probably Edward Cross. The two were neighbours on the 1871 Census. Edward had a sister, Anne Maria Seal. bn. 1871 & brother Thomas William Seal, bn. 1874. Their parents are said to have married Xmas Day 1875 (no GRO or online Parish record found). They had 3 further children; Charles 1876, Joseph Henry 1878 & Harriet Catherine 1880, all Reg. as Cross. On Census day 1881 the family lived in St James Rd, Carshalton, all recorded as Cross. Edward was aged 8. I could not trace them in 1891. Edward Cross Snr appears to have died in Carshalton in 1893 & Harriet in 1899 Croydon District. In 1901 Edward, aged 27 was ‘oddman domestic’ at The Oaks, Woodmansterne. He married Edith Eliza Bruce (Reg.Q4 1903 Lexden Dist.) A daughter, Evelyn Mabel was born in 1909. continued below ...
