Title: Gravestone, Banham, Norfolk and short biography

Description: Birth Reg Q3 1884 Guiltcross Dist, Norfolk (GRO 4b 255). One of 16 children of Alfred, a brick-maker and Emily, nee Farrow. In 1911 they record that 7 of their children had died. Richard was the youngest of the surviving children. On Census day 1901 Richard was with his family in Kiln Rd, Banham and was a farm labourer. In 1911 the address was Hunt Corner, Banham, Richard was with his parents and a brother. He was a tile-maker. SDGW Roll lists his initial service being with Norfolk Reg’t No. 17662. Medal card/Rolls do not mention this. Awarded Victory, British War Medal and 1915 Star – Theatre; Balkans from 9 Oct 1915. He died of wounds at The Princess Christian Hosp. Englefield Green, Windsor Great Park. (Soldiers Effects). Death Reg. Q4 1916, Windsor Dist, age 32. (GRO 2c 634)
