Norford entered Essex Road School on 1 June 1885. The available records do not show when he left, though it's unlikely to be after 1892 when he turned 14. The 1891 census does not show any occupation for him, so he was probably still in education then. The school still exists, now renamed John Scurr School http://www.johnscurr.ik.org/p_Home.ikml - though the current buildings date from the 1920s so would not have been known by Norford.
