1891 - 21st March 1918

John was born in Monquhitter Scotland, the son of John Thomson and Mary Shearer with siblings Mary, Elmira, William, Margaret Ann, Martha Davidson, Annie and Jessie. He, like his father, was a farmer. At the time he enlisted the family was farming at 'Dykeside', Auchterless. They were staunch members of the congregation there and his name is recorded on a family grace in the kirkyard.
