known 19th September 1914
His sister wrote to the army on the 19th September 1914 (he was engaged in the fighting on the Aisne at that time). She clearly hadn't heard from her brother for a while and was worried about him: "To the Army Paymaster Sir, I herewith acknowledge receipt of (the) money order (for) 1/- and 6 d. I hereby certify that I am the sister (of) [No 6013] Pte. J. Flanagan 2nd Battalion Royal Irish Regiment. Sir, would (you) kindly forward his whereabouts as he was a very good brother to me and my two children. I would like very much to have a line from him. I have a very delicate husband not able to do anything. (I) would be grateful if you would forward on his whereabouts and his address, Yours respectfully, Mrs K.Flynn, 17 a Corporation Buildings off Talbot Street Dublin"
