Born in Castle Camp and resided in Sapley, 18598 Private Joe BELSHAM (23) enlisted at Bedford and arrived on 6 January 1915 at the Bedfordshire Training Depot in Ampthill Great Park, Ampthill. He was drafted on 17 August 1915 to join the British Expeditionary Force and serve with the Bedfordshire Regiment, 2nd Battalion. Private Belsham was killed in action on 11 July 1916 at Trones Wood, aged about 25 years and is of no known grave.
