Private, 13154, Loyal North Lancashire Regiment, 7thBattn. Born Hebden Bridge, residence St Annes, enlisted Preston. Killed in action on 08/06/1917. No known grave, but named in the Memorial Chapel at St Annes Parish Church, on the memorial in Ashton Gardens and on the Menin Gate Panel 43N. In 1911 Geoffrey was living with his widowed mother Grace, and two siblings at 105 Westby Rd. He was a Bank Clerk, born Hebden Bridge and employed at London & City Bank. The family had also lived in Caryl Rd. He was aged 19. Geoffrey was educated at Arnold School in South Shore where he had lived before coming to St. Annes. A great sportsman, Geoffrey played football for St. Annes Wesleyans and also for his regiment in France which won the championship. He was a well known and respected member of Blackpool Golf Club. Geoffrey enlisted at the beginning of the war in the Preston Pals and was killed in action in France. The St. Annes Express reports that he was buried where he fell with a cross being placed over his grave. The burial place must later have been lost as he is remembered on the Menin Gate.
