A WAYSIDE SHRINE 3RD AUGUST 1917

3rd August 1917

Henbury Parish Magazine War Diary, August 4th 1917: “Quite a number of people from the locality assembled yesterday near the Laurels, Cribbs Causeway, to dedicate a beautiful War Shrine erected by Mr & Mrs Meyrick Heath in memory of their son Roger Meyrick Heath, (who laid down his life in March 1916), and also other soldiers connected with this part of Henbury Parish, especially: Frank Board Mark Hobby Charles Love Ernest Parsons Edward Castell Herbert Castell Their names & memories are treasured amongst us. This is the first Memorial to be erected in the Parish, and will be greatly prized by all who live nearby.” Unfortunately a search of the area (now commercialized) in 2015 failed to discover the Shrine.
