Lance Corporal Marshall was the brother of Mr J T Marshall, 19 Thornton Rd, and the son of Mr & Mrs Marshall, 87 Heysham Rd, Southport. he was 26 years of age, and before joining the Army he was employed by the Cheshire Lines Railway Company. He entered the Regular Army eight years prior to his death, and at the outbreak of the war was serving in India.His regiment had taken part in most of the heavy fighting at Neuve Chapelle.
