Leonard Albert Carey

Leonard Albert Carey was born in Dover in 1901, he joined the Mercantile Marine And was serving on The John O Scott when it was hit by a torpedo by the German Mine Laying Submarine U-117, on the 18th September 1918. It was on a journey from Barry to Dover with a cargo of coal, it sank off Trevor’s Head, Cornwall, with the loss of all 18 lives. His name is remembered with honor on The Tower Hill Memorial.
