Westleigh War Memorial

Westleigh War Memorial

The Westleigh War Memorial consists of a pillar of stone surmounted by a small cross, a semi circular wall surrounds the rear face bearing names of those who made the ultimate sacrifice. It is situated to the left of the Lychgate of St. Paul's Church, Westleigh, Lancashire. It was dedicated in 1921 by the venerable Noel Lake Aspinall M.A. the Archdeacon of Manchester. Rev. R. Greenwood (Vicar) took the service and called upon Mr. Ernest Turnock to unveil the memorial as relatives and friends of the fallen laid floral tributes. Ernest Turnock was a 'Blind' ex-serviceman who had served in the Great War who at that time was being treated at the then named St. Dunstan's Hostel. He was also from the small village of Westleigh and his home was in Baker Street.
