The Manchester Regiment 22nd (Service Battalion 7th Manchester Pals)

The Manchester Regiment was formed in 1881 by the merger of the 63rd and 96th Regiment of Foot. The 63rd was originally raised in 1758 and become the 1st Battalion; the 96th which became the 2nd Battalion was raised in 1824. Many other battalions came and went during the Regiments history, and most of these are represented in the records. The Manchester Regiment merged with the Kings Regiment in 1958. The 24th Battalion of the Manchester Regiment 'Oldham Comrades'. This Battalion were the pioneers of the 7th Division and therefore served throughout much of the Great War side by side with the men of the 5th,6th and 7th Manchester Pals also served with that division.
